hey all - here's a cool trick to sort topics by the date they were created

just visit any forum on the site and inside your browser's address bar, after the url for the page you're at paste the following:

;sort=first_post;desc

then hit go or send or whatever makes your browser advance to the url in it's address bar

you'll notice that the topics are sorted by the day/time they were created

if you paste the same thing in the address bar, but drop the ;desc off the end it'll sort by creation date, but from oldest to newest!

also - something I didn't know before, if when you're inside any forum viewing the list of topics - on the far left column you'll see little icons - the ones with the little faces in them are ones where you posted!

this is particularly useful for me because when I listen to a member prank I almost always post, so when I get backed up like now where there's like 30 or more that I haven't heard yet, I can just sort the board by creation date to get the most recent topics and then any with no faces in the far left column - I haven't heard those yet! awesome

if you want to see only the topics you haven't read yet in a given forum, just browse to the forum and paste this:

action=unread;board=XXX;all

right after 'index.php?'

so if you browsed to General Chat, you'd see the following in your browser's address bar:

http://www.jackulator.com/smf/index.php?board=5.0

make a mental note of the number after 'board=' and think of it as 'the board number', then replace everything after 'index.php?' with:

action=unread;board=XXX;all

after you pasted that code on the end of the General Chat url you'd have:

http://www.jackulator.com/smf/index.php?action=unread;board=XXX;all

if you change the XXX to 'the board number' (the number I said to make a mental note of) and then hit go - you'll see all the topics in the forum that you haven't read

REMEMBER - 'the board number' is different for each forum - it's not always 5, that's why I suggest you think of it as 'the board number' rather than 5
