I need to know how (if possible) to turn an swf file into an avi, or mpeg like movie.
For my next project, Im making an animation and I want to make a regular movie out of it.
or any other way to the latter would be helpful

You can try this program here. I am able to convert FLV to AVI using it and it's a free program:

thanx. I have (or had since my computer broke) that program. I didn't think it could convert flash files though.
Idk but I only doubt because swf files aren't exactly  "video files"
Ill try though

Yes the program does support swf, seems version 3.0.3 is out now too, that's good, 3.0.2 has been giving me a problem, makes my hard drive beep like crazy.

In any case, anybody can ask and answer any questions here metal, the questions can range from help/technical/personal/opinion related as long as they're not intended to insult anyone hehe.

Sorry it takes me a while to answer these threads actually hehe, i'm constantly busy these days it seems, rendering videos, cutting sound clips, organizing my boards, recording game footage, doing work, spending time with friends, eating and sleeping phew tongue

I know how it is Sir, being busy and all.  I compensate by not eating or sleeping. Although I usually get tired and sick when I do that.....  cheesy

the problem with SWF files is that you can have timelines within timelines (any movie clip on the stage has its own timeline)

so when you try to publish an SWF as an AVI it doesn't come out right - at least, I haven't been able to get it to come out right unless what I was working on was VERY simple

the best way I think is probably to screencap the SWF while it plays -- using CamStudio (free) or something along those lines - that's what I do

there are probably things you can do to make it so that your SWF files will convert more neatly to AVIs without issues, but I don't know what they are - I think probably the first thing I'd do is not have any movie clips -- but when I animate I use TONS of movie clips -- the only way not to is to draw every frame by hand, which takes forever...

just finished an animation - had to screen capture it on my brother's phenomenal 8GB of RAM dual quad core PC because mine doesn't have enough RAM to do it without dropping frames when things get crazy with all the movie clips

it would really be great if Flash would build it into the AVI export process that movie clips' timelines would also be rendered  sad
