new feature -- hide posts from XXX

okay -- I was just messing around in the Introduce Yourself forum and was about to write a short set of instructions for the new membergroup 'n00bslayer' (a spam-deleting/banning group which so far only johnnygonzo and marleycake are members) about how to properly ban people after removing their topics, but I realized that it might not do to have the instructions visible to the spammers, so I looked around on the SMF mod site to see if there was any way to be able to hide specific posts from people with less than X number of posts -- and I found the new mod that I just installed called 'Hide Post'

so now, in the 'Additional Options' section whenever you create a new post you'll see the section for hiding your posts, and you can pick from four groups to hide from:

1. login -- meaning people can't see the post unless they're logged in
2. reply -- meaning people can't see the post unless they've already replied to the topic
3. posts -- set the number of posts someone has to have to view the post
4. moderator -- the person has to be a mod to see the post

personally I don't see the point of #1 since it just encourages people to be logged in when at the site, and not everyone always wants to log in, so that'd just be more irritating than anything else to have topics randomly hidden for no other reason than because you're not logged in.. as for #2 -- that doesn't even make sense. how will people know whether or not they want to reply unless they can read what they're replying to haha... #3 is the one I'm interested in -- not sure when it would come in handy other than the reason I looked for the mod in the first place, but who knows... and then #4 would basically be the same as reporting a topic to a mod I'm guessing, which is an option available to everyone, that no one ever needs to use because people here generally behave themselves anyway

so yeah, not sure if the new feature will have any use other than preventing people with less than whatever posts from seeing stuff they shouldn't see, but I can't think of too many situations where that would be necessary. still, figured I'd give you guys a heads-up

Hmmm, let's see... Can I hide my own post from myself? 
This is pretty cool, it might get annoying though... This an incentive for people to post more or something? 
Can the posts needed be changed after you post something?

well like I said, I installed it mostly so I could write those instructions to the n00bslayer group -- I added you by the way if that's okay

I honestly don't know if you can exclude yourself from being able to see a post, and then still be able to modify it

I know that if you can access a post you made you can modify it (if you normally would have permission), I just don't know if once you set it so you can't access it whether you could then modify it -- only way to tell would be to set one for more posts than you have, refresh the page and then try to modify it

but yeah, assuming you CAN modify it, you can always change the hidden quality of it

Yeah, now I can read your first post, since I replied, with no idea of what I was replying to. 
The "You need XXX posts" thing could be fun, maybe make some "secret calls" or something. 

Can't modify my hidden post, but I can modify this one.

That xxx part threw me off.  

This actually is a great way to hide spoilers from people who are just browsing the forums.

also, the good news is, the max anyone can hide by posts is 500, so if you have over 500 posts you're golden
