THAT IS AWFUL!!!! I seriously hope the presidents of the pharmaceutical companies responsible just drop dead. I can't say I hope they get cancer cause they would cure themselves and continue to withhold it from everyone else! 

the article is right-- I never heard of this at all. that is just absolutely sad.

Never trust corporations to do the right thing. They follow a very simple logic, patents equal profit and profit equals research and development, which can be patented. If a company doesn?t see a lucrative way in producing something it simply won?t, even if it?s a cure for cancer. There really must be no way in hell companies can finagle a patent out of this one. After all, these are the same organizations that have successfully patented human genes, for fuck sake!

I agree with you Bronco, the people that support these actions need to go NOW!

If this truly is a cure it definitely will be researched more by doctors and the like at universities, the ones that don?t follow corporate guidelines when it comes to their field. It may take longer to develop, since it won?t have the same financial backing, but it won?t be forgotten about. Can you imagine the fame and prestige you?d gain for discovering a cure fore cancer? No self-respecting doctor or scientist would pass up such a chance.

you're absolutely right HB -- before they fund the research of any drug, pharmaceutical companies always do their cost/benefit analysis, and they're not going to cure something like AIDS or cancer unless they can absolutely lock in serious royalty payments and super-high prices before it goes generic

gone are the days of people curing something because they want to save people's lives... sure they SAY that's their motivation once they come up with a medicine that doesn't cure something, but makes life tolerable (so long as you take their medication), but that wasn't their motivation

haha.. that's funny -- I posted it on my facebook page in answer to some bullshit some conservative was running... his response was that he couldn't listen to it because it had 'recycled porn movie soundtrack' music behind it...

it is definitely irritating though. no need. the man's words were entertainment enough for anyone. why it needs some bullshit soundtrack behind it is beyond me
