I got a used computer recently and after attempting and failing to install Windows 7 or XP, I had to resort once again to Ubuntu.
I forgot how annoying it is not being able to use exe files  angry Anyone else hear use Ubuntu or Linux can help me out?

Bronco, you can use wine to run windows programs on Ubuntu. And I've always used apt-get on the command line to install stuff. What are you trying to install? It's been a while since I've used Ubuntu so I'm not sure about your launch bar question... Can you run it through the system for me anyway?

thanks fudgbody. However, I've decided to install Windows XP because I'm too busy lately to fuss with it. But if I ever need help again, I'll ask.

scratch that. I forgot Windows XP is just as annoying and stupid. I can't connect to the internet, when I clearly could easily in Ubuntu.

When I was using Ubuntu somehow the password got changed or something and then I couldn't do anything because it wouldn't except my password.

Why is this such BULLSHIT!!!??? angry angry angry

my main question is (about Ubuntu): When I download something it goes into your download folder. If it's something you want to install, how do you do it? I don't know how to use the command line.
Also what folder are the programs stored in? How do you get to that and other files like documents and stuff from the File System?
