Look who just passed 9000 posts! Ironic, isn't it?  lipsrsealed
I'd like to do maybe 1 more big animation for a call, and it'd have to be better than Jack's Shootout! (It might be Mr. D, who knows)
You should at least try to make some calls once a week, a steady flow of calls, even if they're not all masterpieces, would at least keep the members you already have interested and stop them from getting bored and leaving, and it would be cool to get you on Skype and do some calls like that too.  grin
Not sure if I can still work a damn soundboard though.  rolleyes

I for one must say I enjoy the hell out of your calls. I probably listen to them way more often than I should, to the detriment of listening to music. But they help me laugh my way through a hellish commute (when they aren't risking me driving off the road), and for some reason they make great background noise for writing code.

Anyway, I certainly appreciate all the work you have put into this an I want to help in anyway I can. Seriously, honestly... If there's any busywork you can farm off to me I'd be happy to do it. Or any coding stuff you need... I always thought an iPad version of the Jackulator with a hardware way to pipe audio into the line and record it would be cool. I know I haven't been much of a help thus far, but these calls do make me laugh and I'd like to give back.

hahaha  grin grin grin that is fuckin ironic  tongue

or maybe ustream -- or some kind of podcast setup where I can see what you guys are writing on the call live -- for some good ideas

I just bought a truck so as soon as I can put the thing on the road I'll be able to take the Podcast Host out to roy's place (half-hour drive) and do calls whenever he's got the day off, rather than waiting for him to get out here once a month for band practice, saying we'll try to do calls the next day before he leaves but he's always too tired and grouchy  T_Angry4

does anyone remember awesome youtube videos like this?

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/G-DkRuXzx94&rel=0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/G-DkRuXzx94&rel=0</a>

(If you haven't seen this before, watch it it's hilarious. Especially when the song starts. It nearly killed me with laughing the first time.)

and this one of course

By the way, as far as animation goes, a cheap way to do it that's better than a single static image through the call, is 2 or more static images that get swapped in when the speaker changes.

That way, it remains engaging and interesting, but you don't incur the cost of animating the whole thing and can farm that out too!

coding eh? yeah -- if you can make me a simple winamp-style mp3 player with a playlist -- so people can scroll through the entire list, and once they click on them the comments pop into a box to one side, and related calls pop up in a box on the other side -- have the whole thing linked up to a mySQL database so that people if they're logged in can comment -- and combine it with an AJAX/jQuery comment system similar to the one on youtube that'd be a dream come true. it's the best way I can think of to showcase the calls while making it easy to not only find other ones but to leave comments/ratings

I play a little golf myself...  almost exclusively actionscript -- flash applications. pretty much just simple games. the big soundboard ('The Hybrid 5') has like 4,000 lines of code. but that's pretty much where my expertise ends.

definitely -- it only took me like 4 hours to find all the pictures for the thanksgiving turkey call and put them all in the right spot with sony vegas. but if I did that for every call I'd run out of pictures fast. maybe something in the middle. photoshop a few pics for a couple of parts of the call and then just use mostly the same handful -- not nearly as many as the thanksgiving turkey one -- so I won't have to reuse as many for other calls

Animation would be just dandy, you'd have to go balls deep in it though and not make it shit  T_Anger1 T_Anger1 go big or go home right?

One idea for the animation is to use the method that RBCP talks about:

"A question that a lot of people have already asked is how Telephone Falls is animated. I’m using a digital drawing pad to draw the characters and scenes on the computer, using software called Sketchbook Pro. Then I use CrazyTalk Animator Pro to animate the mouths, facial expressions and bodies of the characters. CrazyTalk automatically does all the mouth animations for me when I import the prank call sound file into it. Basically I do barely any animation myself, so don’t think that I have any skills when you watch this show."

This might be an easy way to make something in between full animation that would take a long time and still pictures.

crap. I didn't know someone else already did that. I mean I knew about crank yankers, but that's fucking puppets.

that is about the same level of quality I'd be going for though -- unless I had a team of people working with me

who or what is RBCP?  shocked

to Dr. Zeigler and anybody else who is new: we had spam issues you wouldn’t believe. It was an attack on the subconscious. It was a virus and we were dying slowly because of it.   That’s why they made it so it was so difficult to sign up and stuff. Christ, when I joined in 2008 I remember it being not hard at all. But the spam… damn, that was just ridiculous. They need a spam block, similar to add block. (I realize that won’t work)

I believe I remember reading something somewhere about the “problem of the internet” and it’s this:
Being able to share information with people around the world this quickly and this vast an audience is great but comes at a price. There are what millions, billions of websites? It’s becoming more and more difficult to get the attention of people especially with a more obscure form of entertainment like prank calls. So we should think that Jackulator is not  the only possible missed gold mine but there are probably tones of other “missed goldmines” out there that we’ll never even hear of. Plus, prank calling haa the bad reputation from all the harassers, so people pass it up. Thinking we’re just more of the same. They don't see it as any interesting art form.

You know I was reading about Frank Garret, and it sounds funny at first, but if you read the whole article, it sounds like the end of his life was really screwed over from that whole thing. I don’t know if it’s true or not but if it is; that’s bullshit. He was called so many times that the FBI got involved. I know it might sound hypocritical of me but I get annoyed if somebody bothers me on the phone twice in one day. He was called waaaaaaaaaaay too many times.

I have to say, like I’ve said many times before;
Why do you feel you always need to work on the board before making a new call?
There are already probably tons (maybe hundreds? a thousand?) of clips we rarely hear already on the board. I can think of two right off the bat:
“So be it” –from a Few Good Men, very simple and useful quote but I never, NEVER hear this.
“It’s difficult for me to express myself when I’m on the verge of exploding in my pants.”
This is such a gold quote and you’ve never used it once. Except you did use the first part “It’s difficult for me to express myself” but cut it off.
Every time I watch a Jack movie I hear good quotes that I do not recognize from the board. All I’m trying to say is it sounds like you’re making more work for yourself that is unnecessary.

As far as animations go; I’ve recently discovered that there are a bunch of really talented artists on YouTube making cartoons regularly. I actually contacted one about this but I doubt anything will come of it. I’d try to find one that likes prank calls in the first place or appreciates them and could get interested in doing that themselves
I just happened to find one I love “speedosausage” on youtube because he did a tribute video to another game commentator/comedian I like.
I definitely can agree to imagining hilarious animations to these calls. It’s gold, I tell you, gold.
The thing is to do a real good animation is quite a lot of work. Depending on how detailed; taking much longer than making a prank call and even putting a small soundboard together.

that vent video was pretty funny Dr. Zeigler. I always forget about those  huh

and happy 9000 posts Jackulator Your post count is OVER 900000000000000000000000000000000  T_Shock1

that’s all I have to say about that. I shat myself on the couch.

I've been doing this since 2001 ever since I was on ebaums world then I learned how to make a soundboard from the guy who made the miss cleo soundboard he had a website called 2400bps.com at the time then I made norman bates, dr phil etc. Everything looking back at it now seems ancient we were all talking to each other  on ebaumsworld and making shitty soundboards and laughing at stupid people. One day jackulator comes from what seems like 200 years in the future now and posts on there some of his calls and a sample of his old jackulator (pre-9000) and bill murray calls with this pop-up innovation which amazed the shit out of me. Everybody else thought it sucked because they were too used to the old style (jackulator must have thought we were fucking idiots I know I would have) This is when jackulator should have posted his calls on youtube he had all the momentum in the world because it was way different then what everyone else was doing nobody else was splicing words (except maybe howard stern's crew) The only knock you would have had against you was the whole victim calls thing which I think has gone too far and why I don't do it as much as I used to

bronco you're right -- I should make a new business page full of all the best lines that should be used on every call. shouldn't take too long.

russ I'm proud you think we were so futuristic. the pop-up idea was roys and the guys over at actionscript.org helped me a great deal learning enough coding to make the jackboard. but as far as your comment about having momentum and posting on youtube -- hindsight is 20/20 they say. what's confusing to me though is -- I started listening to Metallica in about 1991 -- just the black album. and mostly just because of Enter Sandman. the more I talked to people about how much I liked them the more I kept hearing, "Yeah, but you should check out their older stuff" I didn't even know they HAD older stuff. Once I heard Ride The Lightning, Justice, and Master I didn't look back. Point being -- if a lot of our calls are funny it shouldn't matter when we made them. If someone thinks a call on youtube is hilarious, and there's a link to this website right on the video -- well... You do the math. Seems to me there should have been be a fuck of a lot more traffic back when roy and I were still posting new calls every month. Could be the name of the site throws people off, like maybe they think it's a porn site or a virus site. Other than that the only reason not to come by and listen was if you had some kind of nerdy clique-ey soundboardey objection I don't get. I mean, if Hitler had a successful stand-up career before he slaughtered jews and tried to take over the world I probably wouldn't listen to his standup. But damn. Team Jackulator isn't Hitler. Hitler would definitely harass people and repeat call them. Especially jews.

Speaking of jews, maybe I should have consulted with some during the evolution of this site. I'd probably be a rich man now. Have a team of animators and my own show. A swimming pool and a bad attitude. A respectable drug regimen and a personal trainer.

But yeah. Arby's video has about a million views now. And yet the other calls ON THE SAME YOUTUBE ACCOUNT have a fraction of that. (a lot of them still only have a few hundred views). So I'm at a loss. The last hope for our calls is to animate them.

If anyone knows people who can animate have them send me a message at teamjackulator@gmail.com. And please keep your eyes peeled.

jackulator does kind of sound like a gay porn site  grin grin huh huh cry but i think that makes it more funny  critiqueJack

also people who make lists are usually considered underground and need a spot light, everything Frank Garrett related is only liked by a few and they have their own circle and taste where as jackulator content is in the open domain where more of the average person it would hit home with, or even people who aren't even into prank phone calls find this stuff great

i bet if you look into why the arbys call has the most views is because of the average person spreading it around threw hot linking to Facebook and myspace

you could always do your own list, it would be no more special if someone else did it, what you got going here is what the frank people cry for.

And this site doesn't attract trolls

I think maybe the answer is to post stuff regularly on Youtube as mentioned above.  This sometimes gets a following.  Maybe you could extract calls from your archives and post them to Youtube.

That.  Right there.  ^

I've been following Jackulator since I knew it to be around, even spent New Year's Eve a couple years back with y'all, a couple jack nicholsons, an al pacino, and myself played poker.  Fantastic memories.

Still turn people onto these calls, like the Arby's one, but once they're sold, I send them here for stuff like Rye Credit (also on YT? I think?,) and stuff like Speech Tutor (or any Dreyfuss call,) and anything with jack singing.

Most of my buddies are folks I know from a few years ago, I was and still am really big in the arnold schwarzenegger boards/calls.  My love is still jackulator, and this is what turned me onto pranks in general!

I know this is an old thread, but it doesn't matter, it's precisely what I was looking up tonight.  Get the calls out there!!!  A lot of folks like me just sit here and game for hours upon hours, frequently hearing the same calls, and rarely delving into the treasure trove.  can't emphasize this enough, people want these, and we love them, you gotta get them out there.
