http://www.jackulator.com/____random2016/LightningThroughMySoul.mp3that is ye olde jackulator on guitar/vocals, deek on drums, and the yearling 'mothman' on bass (had only been playing a year by that point)
takes a while to get warmed up, but basically was just an attempt to play a song only deek and I played a handful of times -- years before
I had rediscovered the old version of the song, retooled it and added lyrics and randomly reintroduced it in practice without any warning
but the old version must have made an impression on deek because he remembered it well enough to keep up
LYRICS:
to think of the countless mornings
I have cursed the arrival of the sun
even as it dimly crests the horizon it's brightness scalds my tender eyes
I too know the way of the old man
engaged in thoughts and waking dreams
amazing and complex
like lightning through my soul
steel yourself
stinking like shit
sinking in my ship
into morning....*SYNOPSIS:
basically lamenting morning because you know the night's debauchery of mind
and all of the realizations that came with it will soon be gone
washed away by sunlight and sleep
and all you'll be left with when you wake up aside from a severe hangover is the general feeling
that at some point during the night your soul was hit by lightning
but you won't remember any of it except little bits and pieces
that don't fit to form anything more than a few corners of the puzzles you had solved the night before
*SHORTER SYNOPSIS:
about being an alcoholic pothead who wishes his life was more cosmically interesting
but it shows the kind of lead I love to play -- somewhere between jon scofield and maybe ler from primus?
aside from a few dropped balls here and there, a lot of it flows the way I like.
obviously lo-fi and really shittilly mixed, but it's just us with our crappy equipment recording band practice.
if I could remake this song with amazing gear and an actual professional sound engineer... probably be pretty cool.
interesting thing about this track is that there is only one guitar on the recording
so the parts where you hear harmonies in the lead, that's me harmonizing with myself
playing two guitar parts at the same time basically
something I'm rarely in the zone enough to do well
that's one of the reasons I posted this...
horrendous audio aside,
and overall choppy awkward feel of guys who don't really know yet how to play the song
I grabbed some pretty great spots, lead-wise
so yay me. yay for school!
