I'm watching the news - they're talking about the airplane that went down in the hudson a couple of days ago - I wonder why they don't have any kind of proximity warning system for flocks of birds - combine that with the LRAD sound weapon thingie they could probably prevent most bird strikes

seems kind of silly to have a technologically advanced airplane that can be taken down by a bluejay

according to that article only 15% of bird strikes result in damage to the plane, so I guess that means only 15% of the birds hit the actual engines then - I'm pretty sure chucking a bird into a jet intake isn't something most engines can survive
