I'm happy for everyone who deserves it. But I'm also a little bitter; maybe unrightly so, but it's because I think there are more important issues to be dealing with than gay marriage.

If I was gay myself I this wouldn't even be on the top of my list. As a straight person I don't care aobut marriage that much;; I don't need a piece of paper and formal documentation to tell me I'm in love with my soulmate.

With all the stupid shit going on in this country why is this issue one of the most hotly debated?
I guess it's the stupid Super Religious asshole jerk dip cunts who keep brining it up--the ones who want to kill all the gay people. Fucking ridiculous.

//end of rant

I like that sig btw, Jack  cheesy

It's one of those things that make you make good about yourself. "Oh, we're so modern and open and tolerant". While you're still spying on, bombing, and polluting the whole fucking planet  grin

well it's not as if 'THE GOVERNMENT' decided to pick this out of a hat to work on. it was the end result of a law suit that made its way to the supreme court. other than the actual court itself deciding which cases to take (based on the strength of the legal arguments and how they align with current jurisprudence), I'm fairly sure there wasn't any kind of gamesmanship with the timing of this ruling. the case made its way to the high court -- the high court ruled.

it's that simple.

I agree there are many, many problems that need to be addressed. but I don't have faith in SCROTUS (supreme court republicans of the united states) to rule on them in any way that is indicative of the will of the people. I have lost faith in the high court's ability to rise above partisanship. which is why decisions like these ALWAYS come down on party lines. (a 5-4 vote? big surprise...) and why republicans fought Obama so hard on his SCOTUS nominations. and why Sandra Day O'Connor was waiting for the right time to retire, and why Justice Kennedy's retirement is dreaded by liberals, because he's almost always the 'swing' vote siding with the liberals on issues like this.

what did it for most americans who care about these things was the 2000 decision to stop the recount in Florida when Al Gore had won the election, but it was just getting tedious to do the recounts...

so for me, the fact that we can get ANYTHING good out of this fucking 'supreme' court -- I'll take it...
