I deliberately tracked down the number for a furniture store, because I did a few calls before this which ended pretty abruptly cause I didn't know what to say, and I thought with the "old bachelor" line I might have struck up a good conversation here. Alas, it wasn't to be.
From the guy's reaction it sounds like I called the wrong number, but I know it was an 0800 number and here in the UK house phones never start with that. Also, I think the woman at the start says "Hello, *something* furniture?" so why they were so unpleasant I don't know.
